EDA Hosts Contractor Registration Workshop

Elizabeth, NJ (April 5, 2002) - As part of its ongoing efforts to reach out to members of the construction trades to avail them of the opportunities presented by the State's landmark $8.6 billion school construction program, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) held a "Contractor Workshop" in Elizabeth. Donald Stewart, Assistant Superintendent of Elizabeth Schools, greeted the workshop attendees to Elizabeth High School, expressing the district's pleasure in having the opportunity to host the event.

Created in an effort to educate construction contractors about the steps they need to take to become eligible to bid on the upcoming school construction projects, contractors were able to speak with State agency representatives and review the documentation necessary to become classified and eligible to participate in one of the largest public works program of its type in New Jersey history. The contractors, vendors, manufacturers and business community at-large learned about the millions of dollars in school construction which is slated to be advertised for bid in Elizabeth and throughout the State.

Mayor Christian Bollwage addressed the attendees at the workshop and welcomed them to the city of Elizabeth. The Mayor encouraged the construction contractors to take advantage of the opportunities the school construction program would present. He praised the EDA, and in particular, Executive Director Caren Franzini, for being a great advocate for the overall advancement of the city of Elizabeth.
