The Economic Development
Authority (EDA) Executive Director, Caren S. Franzini, Senator Palaia,
Assemblyman Smith, and Mayor Patricia Monroe joined district officials,
community members and students in a ceremonial groundbreaking for the
district's permanent Early Childhood Center which when complete, will
accommodate 250 preschool children.
Under the Educational
Facilities and Construction and Financing Act, the EDA is entrusted
with financing and managing the design, renovation and new construction
of all the school facilities projects for the 30 Abbott school districts
and for districts that receive more than 55% in State aid.
The EDA is in the
process of purchasing for Neptune school district a 3 acre improved
site for an addition and major renovation to an existing building that
will house the Abbott district's Early Childhood Center (ECC). EDA will
close on this site by the end of July 2002. The 43,887 square foot facility
is expected to be complete by the fall of 2003 with a construction cost
estimate of $6.7 million. The architect for the ECC is Kellenyi Johnson
Wagner.
Caren Franzini
expressed her appreciation to all involved with this project, and applauded
the district and the community for their spirit of cooperation. Neptune
is an exemplary example of how the State, local officials and community
can all work together to provide children with a quality learning environment
and community development.
The week of the
Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association
for the Education of Young Children, and the purpose of the week is
to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families
and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet
those needs.
