Health and Safety Renovations Complete in Asbury Park

Asbury Park, NJ (July 2002) - Health and safety renovations have been completed in Asbury Park School District, providing the children in Asbury Park with the safe, quality educational environments they deserve. Frank Bennett Electric Corporation was contracted by the Economic Development Authority (EDA) for $3.9 million in health and safety repairs to Asbury Park High School, Asbury Park Middle School, Bangs Avenue School, and Bradley Elementary School.

EDA and the project management firm Heery International worked diligently with the district to ensure the health and safety phase of the district's school construction moved forward expeditiously, increasing work progress by coordinating schedules with the school district so window replacement could take place while school was in session. The health and safety renovations included structural and exterior wall repairs, roofing, window replacement, fire alarm system upgrades, doors and hardware.

Completing construction of the health and safety projects is one of EDA's top priorities. More than 400 health and safety projects with estimated construction costs of approximately $600 million were transmitted by the Department of Education for the EDA to package, design and undertake construction. To date over $159 million in health and safety repairs have been completed or are under construction in all 30 Abbott school districts.

Bangs Avenue E.S. stucco & paint repair

Asbury Park is slated for an additional estimated $75 million in school construction activity. Projects include the construction of a new elementary school, early childhood center, and additions and renovations to the high school, middle school, Bangs Avenue E.S. and T. Marshall Primary.

Under the Educational Facilities Construction and Financing Act, the EDA is responsible for the construction and financing of all eligible school projects in New Jersey's 30 special needs districts and all districts receiving at least 55% in State education aid.
