SCC Opens Regional Office to help facilitate building of schools

Newark, NJ (August 20, 2003) - State, city and local officials joined the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) today to mark the opening of their Newark regional office.

Assemblyman Bill Payne,
29th Legislative District

Located at 375 McCarter Highway, this facility is the second of three satellite offices SCC expects to open this year. SCC plans to strategically site their regional offices in areas where the bulk of the work will be done. The Newark City office sits in the heart of the city's redevelopment area and is well placed to ensure individual school districts are better served.

The Newark office will serve the cities of Newark, East Orange and Orange. It will house SCC, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Department of Education staff. Individuals who staff each office will be responsible for project management, design and construction review and oversight, affirmative action, land acquisition and feasibility assessments, property management, district communications and outreach.

The offices will not only provide a base of operations for SCC staff and other representatives assigned to projects in the region, it will also serve to receive bids and accommodate design presentation by architectural, engineering and construction management firms.

"The opening of this new facility is another example of SCC's commitment to better serve the state's individual school districts. By locating an office in the heart of our most active school construction sites, we are able to better monitor activities and progress," said Alfred McNeill CEO New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC).

The office is expected to help SCC facilitate community involvement and to accelerate the time it takes to move a school construction project forward. In addition to Newark, a regional office opened this summer in Jersey City with additional offices soon to open in Paterson and Trenton.

SCC is charged with implementing the New Jersey School Construction Program - an $8.6 billion endeavor aimed at helping to revitalize the state's communities with jobs and targeted growth. The program is the largest public construction program ever undertaken by the State of New Jersey and represents one of the largest programs of its type ever undertaken in the nation.
