Collingswood Architectural Firm Receives AIA Design Award
For SCC Expansion, Renovation of Paterson School No. 25

Trenton - Guenther & Hee Associates (MBE & WBE) of Collingswood, NJ, in association with SOM Education Lab, recently received a design award for excellence in architecture from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) for the expansion and renovation of Paterson Elementary School No. 25, a project being funded and managed by the New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC).

The Paterson School No. 25 project was one of eight selected for award recognition by the AIA from outstanding entries submitted by 97 architectural firms throughout New Jersey. It also was the only public school project in the State to receive an AIA award.

The Paterson School No. 25 addition will include a media center, cafeteria, gym, two science rooms, two general classrooms and renovations to existing spaces. The SCC project is part of New Jersey's $8.6 billion school construction program initiated by Governor McGreevey to build 21st century educational facilities while revitalizing the communities and bringing jobs and targeted growth to areas throughout the state.

"I congratulate Guenther & Hee Associates, along with SOM Education Lab, on their award-winning design for Paterson School No. 25. The AIA acknowledgement of this work is very much deserved," said John F. Spencer, CEO of the SCC.

Rudolph Guenther and partner, Roger Duffy of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Architects, P.A., stated, "It is a pleasure to work for the SCC and to help local communities achieve their educational goals."

They said they "view this project as a great opportunity to make the best use of a venerable turn-of-the-century school. Our team is upgrading Paterson School No. 25 so it will once again contribute to educational excellence in Paterson and help New Jersey achieve its mission of providing high-quality public education in all of its communities."

Paterson School No. 25, they said, "will feature generous, light-filled classrooms and play spaces that are safe and inviting. Our innovative addition will announce to the neighborhood that New Jersey means what it says about improving public education."
