The new 94,269-square-foot facility will provide 21st century educational opportunities for 550 students in pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. The school will include 33 classrooms, a cafetorium with stage, computer room, gymnasium, media center/library, art room and music room. The new school will replace the current Gregory Elementary School built in 1924. It is targeted for completion by fall 2006.
Henderson was awarded the $24.3 million construction contract at the SCC Board meeting November 24. Greyhawk North America is the project management firm.
“Our construction initiative – to provide safe, healthy and high quality school facilities – is the largest public building program ever undertaken by the State and one of the largest programs of its type ever undertaken in the nation,” said John F. Spencer, CEO of SCC, which was initiated in July 2002 to streamline the building of much-needed quality educational facilities through New Jersey’s $8.6 billion school construction program.
