Weiner will continue in his role for Gov. Corzine and take on the added responsibility as transitional CEO, effective Monday, March 13, while the ongoing search for a permanent CEO is completed. Maricondo will resume his CFO duties full-time until his retirement in April. The changeover was announced by Chairman Barry Zubrow at this morning's public meeting of the SCC board of directors. "Scott has had extensive experience as an executive responsible for leading companies at the time of their formation or through periods of growth and transition," said Zubrow, noting that this experience encompasses both the private and public sectors. In the private sector, Weiner was a member of the Senior Management team of Sithe Energies, a company that developed, owned and operated wholesale electric power facilities throughout the country. He also served as President of Ballard Generation Systems, a subsidiary of publicly-traded Ballard Power Systems, and was Vice President for Development at GPU International. As a public servant, his executive experience includes serving as state Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection and Energy, and as president of the Board of Public Utilities. He also served as Chief Counsel to Governor Florio, Vice Chair of the Executive Commission on Ethical Standards and Executive Director of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. He earned a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and a BA in Political Science from New York University. He lives in Plainsboro and has two adult children. Currently, Weiner is on leave from his post as a Faculty Fellow and the Director of the Center for Energy, Economic and Environmental Policy at Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. Weiner said there is "an active search on for a permanent CEO, who we're hoping to identify and select as soon as possible. There also is an ongoing review of the functions of the SCC and how it should be best organized." A report is due to the governor March 15, he added. Weiner noted Maricondo "has done a terrific job in a very difficult situation to improve the Corporation's fiscal management and controls." Maricondo recalled that when he was hired as CFO last May he came here to "help the organization with some of its financial management and internal control issues." He added he has seen many "positive steps" taken to build a financial function at the SCC. He thanked and praised the SCC employees for their hard work and support. He also said the agency has accomplished many good things despite some negative headlines to the contrary. "There are a lot of good people here, dedicated people, and they should be recognized for their commitment to the organization and to the program's mission," Maricondo said |
