SCC, Jersey City Educators Formally Open New Elementary School #3 and Middle School #4

Jersey City, NJ (March 24, 2006) - Students, parents, teachers and residents joined New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) and Jersey City School District officials for the Grand Opening of the new Frank R. Conwell School Campus, Elementary School #3 and Middle School #4 located in the city's downtown area. These new facilities will greatly improve the quality of education, provide much needed space and ease overcrowding for over 1,300 students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.

The new 166,000-square-foot middle school facility consists of 44 classrooms and includes an auditorium wing, gymnasium/cafeteria wing and an educational/administrative wing. The facility accommodates grades 6 through 8 with a functional capacity of 810 students.

The new elementary school is an 114,000-square-foot school facility that includes 31 classrooms, an auditorium wing, a gymnasium/cafeteria wing, and an educational/administrative wing. The school has a functional capacity of 576 students, and will accommodate grade levels kindergarten through 5th grade.

New Middle School #4 and PS #3 were constructed on a shared 5-½ site. While the two buildings are in close proximity to each other, the campus is landscaped with recreational areas that offer the students a variety of opportunities including outdoor classrooms, and open field, amphitheater, basketball courts and a separate outdoor Pre-K play area.

The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the two schools, which opened to students in January.

Edwards & Kelcey Architectural & Design Services designed the new facility that was constructed by Terminal Construction Corporation. SCC fully funded and managed the construction.
