SCC, Long Branch Educators Celebrate Grand Opening Of
New 550-Student Gregory Elementary School

Milestone Marks Completion of 3rd New School in Monmouth County District

Long Branch, NJ (July 12, 2007) – New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) representatives today joined Long Branch Public School District educators, students, officials and residents at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Gregory Elementary School.

The ceremony was a major milestone, marking the opening of the third new state-of-the-art school to be built by the SCC in this Monmouth County city.

The new Gregory School was preceded by the Amerigo A. Anastasia School and the new Long Branch Middle School. A fourth new facility – Long Branch High School – is scheduled to open this September.

"I'm really very excited the Gregory School project is complete. With the progress here in Long Branch we have seen not only improvement in student behavior but improvement in student achievement as well," said Joseph M. Ferraina, Superintendent of Schools.

"I want to thank the governor, our legislators and the SCC for all of the work they have done here in Long Branch with the Abbott initiative,"Ferraina said. "The SCC has worked really well here in Long Branch to get these projects done."

Scott Weiner, Chief Executive Officer of the SCC, stated, "All of us at the SCC are proud that we have been a part of the significant work accomplished here. The new schools are a tribute to the successful collaboration we have enjoyed with district, city and state officials for the benefit of Long Branch students now and for generations to come."

The new Gregory School on Monmouth Avenue accommodates 550 students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade.
The three-story, 94,000-square-foot school has 36 classrooms, a library/media center, a cafetorium, a community health center, computer lab, science room and music room. Land for the new Gregory School was secured by the City of Long Branch in conjunction with its lower Broadway redevelopment plan. It replaces the district’s primary school built in 1924 and named after Christopher Gregory, who was Long Branch superintendent from 1889 to 1921.

The new school was designed by architects Design Ideas Group and is being built by Henderson Corporation. Greyhawk, North America managed the project for SCC.
