Trenton, NJ (August 15, 2007)– The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) has awarded a $20.4 million construction contract to D&K Construction Co. for an addition and extensive renovations at Public School No. 2 in West New York.
The expansion will provide 21st century educational opportunities for 705 students in pre-kindergarten through 6th grades. It will help ease district overcrowding and provide much-needed early childhood educational programs for 3- and 4-year-old children.
The 15,600-square-foot addition will include 10 new classrooms and seven new small-group instruction rooms. Renovations and space conversions in the existing 115,300-square-foot, two-story school will add six pre-kindergarten classrooms, two general classrooms, two special education rooms, a technology lab, kitchen and cafeteria, two science labs, two computer labs and a library/media center.
The renovations and addition will be worked on at the same time, with the overall project scheduled to be completed by summer 2009.
Earthtech Tams is the design firm for the project, which is being managed for the SDA by Turner Construction Co.
The SDA has opened two new schools in the district – West New York Middle School and Public School No. 4 – and has another under construction – Public School No. 3.
The organization has completed 32 new schools and 25 major additions/renovations and nearly 400 health, safety and other projects. Currently, 28 projects are under construction
