Trenton, NJ (September 27, 2007) – New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) representatives today joined Trenton School District educators, students, officials and residents at a ribbon-cutting for an addition and major renovations at Parker Elementary School.
The newly expanded and renovated facility provides 21st century educational opportunities for 475 students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. It enhances academic achievement, provides preschool educational programs and helps alleviate overcrowding in the Mercer County district.
Scott Weiner, Chief Executive Officer of the SDA, said, "On behalf of my colleagues at the SDA, I want to express our appreciation for the opportunity to work on this project and contribute to the Trenton community. This demonstrates what can happen when we work together and illustrates the collaboration among the district, the Mayor and the SDA. During the past year, that collaboration made it possible to have the school ready for this fall."
Besides Parker Elementary School, the other SDA projects completed in the Trenton district are Columbus, Gregory, Kilmer, Mott and P.J. Hill elementary schools.
The Parker School project provides a 21,473-square-foot addition and renovation of 62,500 square feet of the existing school that was built in 1938. The addition includes a cafeteria and kitchen, a library/media center, administrative offices and an early childhood area. The design addresses the tight restraints of this urban community school by capturing needed green space, providing a basketball court and introducing a more efficient parking layout.
The project was designed by the DLR Group and built by Turner Construction Company. Hill International managed the project for SDA.

The Parker School is among 22 new and renovated schools managed by the SDA that opened this month, benefiting 13,500 students statewide. It is the largest slate of major school projects opened in a single fall since the school construction program’s inception.
Overall, the SDA has completed 41 schools and 28 major renovations and additions, and nearly 400 health, safety and other projects in Abbott districts. An additional 21 are under construction.
