SDA, Egg Harbor Township District Celebrate Openings of Two New 500-Student Primary Schools

Egg Harbor Township, NJ (April 5, 2008) - Students, parents, teachers and residents joined New Jersey Schools Development Authority and Egg Harbor Township School District officials today to formally open two 21st century facilities – C.J. Davenport Primary School #2 and E.H. Slaybaugh Primary School #3. Separate dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held at each school, followed by tours of the new facilities.

The Davenport and Slaybaugh schools are providing quality resources to serve the educational needs of 1,000 students from pre-kindergarten through first grade and help meet the demands of increasing enrollment in this growing Atlantic County community. Both new primary schools, which opened in September 2007, were built on district-owned land next to an existing elementary school, creating an educational campus.

Scott Weiner, CEO of the SDA, said, "On behalf of the SDA, I want to say how pleased we are to have had the opportunity to manage construction of these two new schools for the Egg Harbor Township School District. We are proud that this collaboration with the district, school board and community has resulted in safe and modern facilities to enhance educational opportunities for present and future generations of students."

Superintendent Dr. Philip W. Heery stated, "Today's dedication of the Davenport and Slaybaugh Primary Schools fulfills the promise made to the community of Egg Harbor Township by the Board of Education and the New Jersey School Development Authority to deliver functional, cost effective, 21st century educational faculties for its children. These two buildings represent a joint effort in addressing

the Egg Harbor Township School District's needs as it continues to be one of the fastest growing school populations within the state."

Davenport School #2, on Spruce Avenue, is a 57,700-square-foot facility, while Slaybaugh School #3, on nearby Swift Drive, encompasses 60,800 square feet of space. Each school accommodates 500 students and includes 25 classrooms, an art/music room, a computer lab, a library/media center, a combination cafeteria/gym/auditorium and administrative offices. Slaybaugh is the larger of the two schools because it includes a small extension wing for the offices of the Egg Harbor Township Board of Education.

SDA managed the construction of both schools and funded a percentage of the construction costs for Egg Harbor Township, which is a Regular Operating District. Design Collaborative, Architects & Planners, was the architectural firm for the school projects, which were built by Tamburro Bros. Construction Co.

Overall, the Authority has completed 41 schools, 37 major renovations and additions, and nearly 400 health, safety and other projects in SDA Districts (formerly classified as Abbott Districts). An additional 13 SDA-managed projects have been completed in eligible Regular Operating Districts. The Authority has 26 active projects in SDA Districts and nine in Regular Operating Districts.
